Hardcover
What does it mean to be “chosen,” and why did God have to choose?
Religious people defining themselves as monotheists have throughout history advanced the idea that their understanding of the divine will is superior to all others. Their’s supercedes those that have preceded, and they are superior to those that have followed. This phenomenon tends to be expressed in terms not only of supercessionism, but also of “chosenness,” or “election.” Who is most beloved by God? What expression of the divine will is the most perfect? Which system of beliefs reflects God’s ultimate demands or desire?
This book examines the religious phenomenon of chosenness, the idea of covenant, and the expressions of supercessionism as articulated through the scriptures of the three major monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It offers theory as to how and why the ongoing competition and friction between religions has come about, and will offer thoughts about how to overcome it.
